Assuming that one is speaking of *audio* ports (as opposed to, say, MIDI), all ports are single-channel.  Designations like ‘left’ or ‘right’ (or 'left-front', ‘right-rear’, etc) are up to the application layer.  JACK provides the mechanism, not the policy.
